Your message, my pipes
A writer might be your best talker
I’ve been a business writer for many years. I understand nuance, inflection, and emphasis – and the client’s strategy driving it. It’s also thinking about how that person in the audience listens, processes, and responds.

OK, so I’m kinda new to this
… but I’m ready to roll
After years of hearing, “hey, you’ve got a great voice” and even a couple of pinch-hits on commercial recordings, I started studying how this works…
… with a coach and some classes
… first, with one-on-one professional voice training (Ray Schilens), then a few improv classes, and a small group class at the Acting Studio Chicago (Spring 2025). I thoroughly enjoyed expanding my range, from the rapid-fire mattress commercials to fatherly advice in a reputation ad for a major corporation.
… because I’m a professional communicator
Ever since earning a journalism degree (Syracuse University/Newhouse School), I’ve worked in marketing communications and publishing, including multimedia creation. My book on nutrition (“A Guy’s Gotta Eat,” 2004 DaCapo Press) put me in front of many cameras and microphones.
… now with a real sound studio
And not just a walk-in clothes closet. I’m serious about this, with a sound booth that’s TWICE as big as a refrigerator, equipped with a Sennheiser MKE600 shotgun mic, a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2G4 4th Gen USB Audio Interface, an sE Electronics Dual Mic Pop Shield, and mastery of GarageBand post-production editing.
… with a long history of client service
… because preparation, punctuality, sometimes working late and long to hit deadlines – is what clients need and have every reason to expect. I also know that clients want and deserve variety, enthusiasm – or something other than enthusiasm – and whatever it takes to reach the intended audience.
… and talent that is coachable
From my background as a freelance writer I understand how to adapt to client needs. One gets there by listening, thinking, and adjusting as the project advances – to achieve perfection. Casting directors, producers, project managers, and authors have every right to expect the same from their audio talent.
